I’m hoping it’s clear that in panel 2 and 3 that we’re getting fleeting glimpses of the villain-for-hire who has been contracted to test the kid out. You’ll be seeing more of her shortly. I had to spend some time on this conversation to set up the story, so it seems to me at least, that we’ve been inside Blackwater Prison for way too long, but we’ll be hitting the road real soon.

I don’t think this child is Evers’s son; he would have taken far more interest in his welfare than mere money if he had been. But the eggplant is a criminal; there are those who think the worst of people and that’s because they are the worst of people. He can’t conceive that Evers may have been just a friend to Lauren so he figures he’s Evers’s bastard child. In an earlier strip, it showed that there were people remotely monitoring their conversation. Maybe they could deal with this situation. Then again, if they did, we’d have no story.
The cruel part is… who says the monitors are not paid off too? If one knows enough crooked cops in the place, complete privacy becomes a matter of setting the right hours for someone to visit in prison…
Ragingagnostic: Maybe the mother did not want to tell Evers, because then he will get involved and killed by a jealous Winston
Hmm, good point.
I don’t know. Now that I review Mr. Purple People Eater’s conversation here, he hasn’t actually admitted to having sent anybody. If they are being monitored, then they can’t pin anything on him. Evers could still warn the authorities so that he doesn’t have to get involved in a dangerous situation involving himself and another hired thug (which he is, come to think of it). But, again, there would be no story. 🙁
Maybe this is GrapeApe’s way to try to protect his son, It is possible he wants better for the kid then ending up dead or in super super super max like his dad.
This guy definitely gives off an aura of “I liked to slap my girl around, and I would love to do the same to my possible son.”
Am I the only one getting that feeling, I cannot be the only one getting that feeling.
