I had originally written that line as ‘They’re REVVING the engine,” but when I put the text into the word balloon the word looked like REWING and I couldn’t make it look right.  I figured I’d be spending a lot of time explaining to confused readers what I meant to say, then I thought of using the word GUNNING instead, and it fit in nicely. It’s much more of a dynamic verb, and it sounds a lot better in this context…. Don’t be surprised if there’s a lot more gunning of engines in the future.
